Life happened
I'm really behind in my blogging this month. The thing is, when I'm anxious about something, I just don't feel like writing. I read that writing it down might help with reducing the anxiety. Unfortunately, my brain doesn't work that way. Writing takes too much of me in times of anxiety. Or anxiety takes too much of me that I don't have the energy to write. I think the latter is more likely.
Anyway, a lot happened since my last post. The husband went to Mexico with a handful of guys he's been friends with since childhood to celebrate their milestone birthday. While he was away, I received the old (13 years old!) Thinkpad laptop ordered a week prior from eBay, which kept me occupied. I uninstalled the Windows 11 Pro that came with it and installed Zorin OS on it instead. I haven't looked back.
Days after the husband came back from Mexico, I had to go to a much dreaded doctor's appointment, which was the main source of my anxiety. Let's just say that it wasn't as bad as I'd expected, but it could've gone better. I'm going to have see the doctor again in the near future, so expect another period of high anxiety and no blogging.
On a happier note, we became mortgage-free yesterday! Woohoo! It took 17 years, but the house is finally ours! We were broke when we bought it and didn't even put in a down payment. It's not a fancy house in a fancy neighbourhood. Just a small, century house on the wrong side of the tracks, with a view of a grocery store. I think we're going to live here forever because, even though we could sell it for twice the price we bought it for, we wouldn't be able to afford to buy a bigger house if we wanted to stay in the same town. Real estate prices here are crazy high! Luckily we love our little house. We love that it's close to a grocery store and only a 1-minute commute from the husband's workplace.
The photo above is, sadly, not of our house. I wish it was. I would love to live in a turf-roofed house by a fjord in Iceland, my happy place. I picked that photo for the post because it's one of the few photos of the two of us. You can see me in the reflection on the window. You just have to squint a bit to see it. :-) I took it on our most recent visit to Iceland in May this year.
I've been trying to figure out where to go for our annual road trip next year but, holy cow, car rental fee is so expensive in all the countries I'm interested in visiting. I'm a thrifty traveller who likes to visit expensive countries. It's complicated. Might just have to stay within Canada and use our own car to travel East. I need to see the ocean!
