This is Halloween
It's Halloween, the last day of October. I feel like I should post something, just so that I could say I posted one entry more this month than I did last month. An improvement! I don't track my visitors/readers so I don't even know if anyone is reading this blog, but I'm documenting my boring life mostly for myself. So there.
We're not handing out candies this Halloween because the resident Halloween candy-giver is away. The Blue Jays vs Dodgers game is on tonight in Toronto. As a Canadian, I'm obliged to say that I hope the Blue Jays will win the game, but other than that, I really couldn't care less about sports in general. The Blue Jays mania is real, though. Everywhere I go, I'd hear someone talking about it. Even the grocery store across the street is all decked out with the Blue Jays logo. It is definitely A Big Deal™ around here. I love it for them. And by them I mean the people who actually care about the game and the Blue Jays.
Let's change the topic, shall we? Earlier this week, I got frustrated with not being able to install some scripts to my server from my Android tablet, even after installing a terminal app. I went to eBay to see if I could find a half decent, used laptop for cheap so I could do my thing. Found one that looked good in passing for, like, $100. Couldn't be bothered to look at it closely. Sent the link to the husband, hoping that he'd scrutinize the listing for me and tell me if it was a good buy. He didn't. He just bought it for me without giving the listing a closer look. Sigh. I had to do the scrutiny after he told me he bought it. Lucky for us, it didn't say anything was broken. Just that the battery life is not the greatest, which is to be expected from a 13 years old laptop. It's supposed to be delivered on Monday. I hope it's not a total garbage.
I'm pretty excited about the laptop—a ThinkPad—because I've never had a proper one before. I had a netbook a long time ago but I wouldn't call it a proper laptop. It was the slowest thing ever! The husband said it still works. Slow as a snail, but works.
Anyway, the old laptop I'm getting comes pre-installed with Windows 11. I don't even know how the seller managed to install it on such an old machine but somehow they did. I'm pretty sure it's going to be super slow. I'm planning on ditching Windows and installing Linux on it instead. We'll see how it goes. I've never installed or used Linux before, but there's a first time for everything. I'm looking forward to trying out the many, different Linux distros, and installing all the scripts! All of them scripts!!
Well, I feel like having a snack attack so that's all the boring news for today. Ta-ta for now, and Happy Halloween to those who celebrate!
