Fujipet EE Camera

A plastic film camera and a small, wind-up robot.

While honeymooning in Nova Scotia twenty years ago, we stopped at a barn near Yarmouth. The barn was full of various dusty, old items (dare I say antique?) for sale. After looking around for a bit, nothing really caught our fancy, but just when we were about to leave, I spotted the Fujipet EE, looking almost like new in its pleather case. I knew I wanted it but the camera had no price tag and I was worried it would cost us a pretty penny. We took it to the seller to ask for the price. To my surprise, he only wanted $5 for it. Sold!

The Fujipet EE was made in 1961 in Japan, mostly for the Japanese market. It takes 120 (medium format) film. It's a simple point-and-shoot camera. Its only feature is a selenium light meter. It has a plastic lens, so it's definitely not for those seeking to take ultra sharp photos. But I think, compared to the plastic lens on the Diana camera, the plastic lens on the Fujipet produces some sharp-ish photos. If you don't zoom in on the photos too closely, that is.

I haven't used this camera in many years, but I remember it being a joy to shoot with. Below is a small selection of the photos I took with it. If you're interested in getting one of these cameras, there are some available for sale on eBay, but unfortunately for you, not for $5.
